Mutrah Souk

Muttrah Souk, is one of the oldest market place in gulf .

History stretching over 200 years for trading of goods and commodities locally and internationally. It was a local business hub for traders importing spices and other commodities in the market. The market is called AL Dhalam which means darkness in Arabic, as sources cited.It was locally called Al Dhalam because the stalls were in such a way sunrays does not filter inside the market.At first the souk was made of mud and the stalls were made of palm leaves. After His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin said took over the throne and with the help of Muscat municipality the souk went under great transformation.The market got its modern touch reserving its history. And attracting millions of tourist in the souk helping country in adding revenue and developing its economy and foreigner get to see ancient jewelries,khanjar etc.And learn about ancient and modern lifestyle of Omani folklores.



Many people come to Mutrah cornice just to visit the Souq which retains the chaotic interest of a traditional Arab market albeit housed under modern timber roofing. There are some good antique shops selling a mixture of Indian and Omani artifacts among the usual textile, hardware and gold shops. also in Muttrah Cornich there are some of tourists places like.  aryam garden, Sultan Qaboos port ,kalpoh park, alalm palace. in fact Muttrah cornich has nice interface for many tourists.
