WELCOME TO MY BLOG

I, welcome everyone in my blog "Discovering Muscat". My name is Mohammed Al-Barami.I am an Omani. My blog is about Discovering Muscat. Muscat has many beautiful places to visit, I will show you some of them and I  hope you like them and I would be glad to see your comments and please do share your experiences.


Before that, I will give you general information about Oman. Oman is officially called the Sultanate of Oman. It is an Arab state in southwest Asia on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It has a strategically important position at the mouth of the Persian Gulf. It is bordered by the United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the southwest and also shares a marine border with Iran. The coast is formed by the Arabian Sea on the southeast and the Gulf of Oman on the northeast.

Oman is a Muslim country, it includes ibidy Muslims, Sunni Muslims, and Shia Muslims. Arabic is the official language of Oman.

The Sultanate is administratively divided into eleven governorate.They are in turn divided into 61 wilayats.The government are:Ad Dakhiliyah, Ad Dhahirah North, Al Batinah North, Al Batinah South, Al Buraimi, Al Wusta, Ash Sharqiyah North ,Ash Sharqiyah South,dhofar,muscat ,and musandam. Muscat is the capital city of Oman and there are many tourist spot in Muscat like:


Muscat is the capital of Oman. It is a center of  various government institution and it is the largest city in the Governorate of Muscat. The total population of Muscat Governorate reached 2million which includes locals and expatriate according to census board. The metropolitan area is spreader approximately 3,500 km2 and includes six provinces called wilayats.And its the heart of all financial institute. And the city also has a lot sight seeing and spots to offer for tourist.

Marina Bandar Rowdha














Oman with its beautiful sea offers a lot for under water diver. It was a dream come true for divers when marina Bandar rowdha was open in 1996.Sorrounded by blue sea and steep mountain the marina is fantastic place for scuba diving. It has a restaurant Blue Marlin with a bar and offers its pool for free for dine in visitors. And recently added semi-submersible boat which operates in Marina.. Passengers are taken from the marina for an hour for underwater exploration. The reefs of Bandar Al-Khairan is a home for thousands of fish, turtles, eels and if lucky dolphins  which passengers can observe through large underwater windows. The whole experience can change ones point of view about Oman.. Passengers are well taken care they sit in a climate controlled cabin about 2 meters below water in complete safety. And whole journey takes about 2 hour 30min.








 
 
 
 
 
 







 

The wave Muscat








The Wave Muscat is spreaded along the coastline of the Arabian sea for residential purpose, with 400 berth marina, a golf course, hotels, retail outlets, dining restaurants & Oman largest yatch hub. It offers a good lifestyle & leisure, pedestrian walkways. It showcases Oman's natural mountain & sea. It's a world class living destination in Muscat. Oman has a lot of soft sand beaches. Qurum beach is one of them. Activity for beach visitors include swimming, kite-surfing, boating, jet-skiing & snorkeling. Qurum beach is famous for family outings, walkers & joggers. The beach is lined with restaurants, shisha lounge's & cafe's. On weekends one can see a lot of people gathering for barbeque & beach football. The Loveland which lies beside the beach is famous for gathering of youngsters and showing of with their cars & bikes.

if you want to know all these things, you have to visit bite Al Baranda museum bait Al Baranda is private museum which has an  unsurpassed collection of Oman s postal history. it opened on 16th December 2006, the name  of this building literally translates as villa with a verandah. it is situated after the port round about, on the right side just before the fish roundabout on the Muttrah Corniche.It is administered by muscat municipality.

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque was inaugurated by His Majesty the Sultan in May 2001 .It  locates close to the road leading to the heart  of the capital Muscat stands the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Wilayat Buwsher.


Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is the biggest mosque in Oman. Its total capacity is  20.000  worshipers, and it covers estimated area of 416.000 square meters. The main square -shaped prayer room can accommodate 6.500 worshipers and has central dome which rises 50 meters above the floor.


The mosque prayer hall floor is topped with a single piece Persian carpet composed of 1.700 million knots which took about 27 months to make,covering an area of 4.200 square meters and weighing 21 tons. Twenty-eight different colors made from plant or natural dye,in varying gradations, were used in this carpet's weave.


Non-Muslim are allowed to visit the mosque every day, except on Friday, from 8:30 am until 11:00 am.Visitors are asked to dress modestly and in a way befitting to places of worship. Women are also required to cover their heads.

Mutrah Souk

Muttrah Souk, is one of the oldest market place in gulf .

History stretching over 200 years for trading of goods and commodities locally and internationally. It was a local business hub for traders importing spices and other commodities in the market. The market is called AL Dhalam which means darkness in Arabic, as sources cited.It was locally called Al Dhalam because the stalls were in such a way sunrays does not filter inside the market.At first the souk was made of mud and the stalls were made of palm leaves. After His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin said took over the throne and with the help of Muscat municipality the souk went under great transformation.The market got its modern touch reserving its history. And attracting millions of tourist in the souk helping country in adding revenue and developing its economy and foreigner get to see ancient jewelries,khanjar etc.And learn about ancient and modern lifestyle of Omani folklores.



Many people come to Mutrah cornice just to visit the Souq which retains the chaotic interest of a traditional Arab market albeit housed under modern timber roofing. There are some good antique shops selling a mixture of Indian and Omani artifacts among the usual textile, hardware and gold shops. also in Muttrah Cornich there are some of tourists places like.  aryam garden, Sultan Qaboos port ,kalpoh park, alalm palace. in fact Muttrah cornich has nice interface for many tourists.
